Welcome to Key Stage Two! In Year Three we aim to allow children to make a smooth transition from KS1 by building on what they have learnt in their subjects and understood about the world around them in previous years. Teachers support children with their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development while, providing a well-rounded curriculum. In Maths children begin to explore written method of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Writing has great emphasis on narrative skills such as speech, organising information and proof-reading work to check for accuracy. In reading children take more ownership of their learning and begin to analyse author’s choices in writing, themes in narrative and the contrast between fiction and non-fiction texts.
In the past, homework was sent home via Microsoft teams and Class Dojo, and on occasion this might still be required.
Homework tasks are set on a weekly basis with an expectation that the work is completed by the next week. The children will receive a new copy of passwords to stick into new reading records so that they can access sites like My-maths and Times Tables Rockstars.
Maths and English homework is set on Friday and due to be completed by Thursday. We will monitor Times Table Rockstars weekly.
Weekly Spellings are sent home and posted on Dojo.
Children are expected to read for 20 minutes every night (preferably with an adult) and record their books in their Reading Records. There is a table where children are expected to make inferences and raise questions about the texts they are currently reading.
Submission for any Home Learning Projects and competition entries can be sent to your child’s class teacher via Class Dojo/Teams
Children are expected to come to school dressed in their PE Kit on school days. It is recommended that your child has sturdy, soled black trainers to avoid injury when making use of the outdoor learning space.
